During These Economic Times, Employers Are Looking For Any Excuse To Fire You.
If you're sick and your employer wants you to come in anyway, don't refuse the instruction. If you're an executive and your boss wants you to wash windows or sweep the bathroom, don't refuse to do it. Has your employer overstepped your terms of employment?

I've been working for the same company for six years and have only missed two days sick since I began with them. Two weeks ago my sister was diagnosed with cancer. I called my work and told them I would be out of town for a week (sis lives in another state) and wanted to combine that week with my vacation the following two weeks. The secretary told me ok but later I found out she told the boss I had 'faked the sick sister bit' to extend my vacation. When I go back I am afraid he will fire me as the company is laying off several employees.
The number one rule is don't speculate. Having said that, be a boyscout. Bring documentation of your sister's illness with you upon your return. Be ready to present it only if your boss confronts you. If you're still fired, let me know. More importantly, don't confront the secretary about it. Getting into an argument with her could cause your separation.
Thanks for the advice. Boyscout . . . yeah, I know, "Be prepared." I'll keep you posted.
